The NTT IndyCar series will not be completing its first practice session on Friday as scheduled due to ongoing track construction.
The series was due to make its first on track appearance at the new Markham street course on Friday afternoon.
Track construction fell behind and delayed all track activity, including for support series, while frantic work continued overnight Thursday and throughout the day.
Reports from the track indicate that properly installing, and signing off on the safety of, tire barriers located around the track was the final step that could not be completed in time.
After initially being rescheduled for 6:00 eastern time, the series has been forced to move first practice to the next day and reshuffle the entire schedule.
An official event memo sent to the paddock reads: “All track activity for today has been rescheduled to Saturday, August 15, as circuit construction is not complete.”
IndyCar will now complete two practice sessions and qualifying all on Saturday, with other support series squeezing in between.
Practice 1 will now take place at 10:05 AM, followed by practice 2 at 2:30 PM and qualifying will begin at 6:30 PM.
At this time, Sunday’s schedule appears unaltered. The 90-lap race is set to begin at 12:00 PM eastern time.
