Power Maxed Racing unveiled the brand-new PM Junior Championship prototype at Thruxton, with the car set to debut supporting the British Touring Car Championship in 2027.

The championship looks to provide a development pathway for drivers aged 14-17, but draws fair comparisons to the Ginetta Junior series given the PM1’s looks and its presence supporting the BTCC.

The Ginetta Juniors series proved to be one of TOCA’s more popular support options. However, its last contract expired in 2022 and the series moved to supporting British GT.

Spearheaded by the aim of keeping costs low, the PM1 is set to cost £74,995 plus £85,000 for a season of running.

“We want to try and make it as easy as possible for people to get into motorsport,” PowerMaxed Director Adam Weaver told BTCC media.

“We’ve actually tried to build that into the design to make sure there are areas on the car that you can get plenty of sponsorship on, because without that, unless you come from a very wealthy family, it’s very difficult to go racing.

“It’s not an entry level series, it’s on the premium package in British motorsport, so it’s not going to be the cheapest, but what we can do is make sure that it’s as cost effective as it can be.”

Slated as a feeder series of sorts to the BTCC, the package is designed to utilise technical partners not too dissimilar from a BTCC machine.

Power Maxed have confirmed some details: the PM1 will be powered by an M-Sport engine, a Quaife sequential gearbox and differential, and a Cosworth electronics system.

“The plan is for it to follow the entire season and do all 10 rounds of the BTCC, so plenty of eyeballs,” Weaver confirmed.

“I would say we’ve got probably 30 teams that have enquired and are interested, and then the same again with drivers and their families.”
