Josh Cook excited for ‘special’ Thruxton BTCC outing

Speedworks Corolla’s Josh Cook is looking forward to the British Touring Car Championship‘s stop at Thruxton, where he has so often found himself on the podium before.

Picking up his first win at Thruxton in 2018 in a Vauxhall Astra, Cook went on to claim nine more in his old Honda Civic.

And the visit to the former RAF airfield comes at an opportune time for Cook. While his Toyota had been consistently racy throughout the first half of 2026, 2.35 miles of Hampshire tarmac marks a fantastic chance to improve upon his solitary podium of the season at Oulton Park.

“It’s always special racing at Thruxton,” Cook told BTCC media.

“I’ve enjoyed some fantastic moments there over the years and it’s definitely one of the circuits I look forward to most on the calendar.”

Cook will be heading to Thruxton with a new teammate, as Ryan Bensley takes over from Max Buxton to return after a solitary BTCC outing at Snetterton in 2025.

While Buxton was only dropped into a reserve role due to a sponsor pulling out, it allows Bensley to jump into the hotseat for the remainder of the campaign.

Having driven for Team VERTU at Snetterton last year, and grabbing an eclectic mix of experience elsewhere, the new #7 driver looks poised to realise his ‘dream’ of driving in the BTCC.

Should Speedworks have a successful first weekend with their new lineup, it could power them above Restart Racing and into P6 in the Teams’ Standings.

“The Corolla has shown strong pace this season and hopefully we can hit the ground running after the summer break,” Cook continued.

“It’s a circuit where confidence is everything, so we’ll be looking to maximise every session and put ourselves in the mix from the outset.”
