Josh Cook is optimistic for Sunday in the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park, having scored a strong P2 in the Race to Pole.
The Speedworks man rose from P4 at the start to a comfortable P2, having scrapped with Ash Sutton midway through the Qualifying Race.
Cook’s Corolla looks a formidable foe around the 2.26-mile circuit, with Árón Taylor-Smith also showing pace in the Laser Tools MB Motorsport counterpart.
In fact, Taylor-Smith did take the chequered flag first, but a five second penalty saw him demoted down the order.
“That was good,” Cook told BTCC media.
“I think this sort of circuit suits our car.
“I mean, I’m real surprised at the pace of the Fords. So, I think that was about all we had in it from starting where we did.
“Obviously, Aaron did a great job for the Laser guys and the other Corolla.
“Unfortunate to pick up the penalty, but I think they’ve got great pace as well, so I think we’ll be fighting tomorrow.”

Josh Cook tried to wring everything out of his Corolla to battle for the win
Cook kept the pressure on Cammish until the end of the Race to Pole, ready to capitalise should the NAPA man make a mistake.
However, with the technical nature of the Cheshire-based circuit limiting overtaking opportunities, coming home in P2 is still a fantastic result.
“It’s difficult in traffic around here, as we know; starting near the front is vital for a good race day.”
While Cook did stay within distance of Cammish, he never had a real chance to make his move.
“He [Cammish] just edged that gap away, so nothing I could really do about it, just to play the game, and we’ll wait our turn.
“Dan only had seven seconds a lap [of boost], and we still really couldn’t challenge with that.
“So, hopefully tomorrow we can use that to our advantage. Obviously, it’s a longer race, which obviously, see how we get on.”
