Rebellion splits two Toyotas in Fuji opening practice

Toyota Gazoo Racing's Sebastien Buemi has set the fastest time in opening practice ahead of this Sunday's Six Hours of Fuji.

The double Le Mans winner topped the timesheet with a time of 01:27:373, which put him just under three-tenths of a second ahead of Norman Nato in the #1 Rebellion R13-Gibson, who posted a 01:27:659. That time was just over a tenth quicker than the second Toyota of Kamui Kobayashi. The Silverstone winner was third with 01:27:790.

The two Ginettas brought up the rear of the timesheets, with the #5 G60 LT-P1 of Ben Hanley in fourth, ahead of the #6 of Charlie Robertson.

In LMP2, Toyota protege Kenta Yamashita topped the timesheets in the #33 High Class Racing ORECA 07-Gibson with a time of 01:29:624. ahead of new Formula 2 champion Nyck de Vries.

The Dutchman makes his return to the #29 Racing Team Nederland ORECA and found himself seven tenths behind Yamashita. Silverstone race winner Nicolas Lapierre was third in the Cool Racing ORECA, another half a second behind De Vries.

In GTE Pro, the order somewhat mirrored the finishing order at Silverstone, with Gianmaria Bruni in the #91 Porsche 911 RSR-19 quickest with a time of 01:38:315, which was just 0.104s ahead of tean-maet and reigning world champion Michael Christensen in the #92. The #71 AF Corse Ferrari of Miguel Molina was third, with Nicki Thiim the quickest Aston Martin in fourth.

Jonny Adam set the pace in GTE Am. The #90 TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage AMR set a time of 01:39:010, 0.029s clear of the #70 MR Racing Ferrari. The #86 Gulf Racing Porsche 911 RSR completed the top three.
