Qualifying for the 110th running on the Indianapolis 500 has been delayed on account of storms rolling through the Indianapolis area.

Originally, the first day of qualifying was set to get underway at 11:00 AM eastern time.

The schedule called for all drivers to get attempts at setting their best four-lap average, with nearly seven hours available for multiple runs if desired.

At the end of the session, positions 16-33 would have been locked in. The remaining 15 drivers would advance to further rounds to be completed on Sunday.

Now that storms have soaked the circuit, it is unknown if Saturday’s portion will take place at all.

If there is not a big enough break in the storms to give all 33 drivers a chance at a qualifying run before the end of the day, then the entire day will be scrapped and condensed into a new schedule for Sunday.

There has been no announcement yet regarding whether Saturday’s session will be outright canceled or merely delayed, and a decision on that matter will depend how quickly the rain moves out.

Further updates are expected throughout the day.
