Campos Racing's Alexander Peroni will sit out of the second FIA Formula 3 race of the weekend as a precaution after his horrifying crash in during Saturday's Feature Race.
The Australian had been running in a season-best sixth place before he was launched into the air after hitting the sausage kerb on the outside of the Parabolica towards the end of the race.
His Campos spiralled in the air before landing upside down in the catch fence before coming to a rest, upright on tyre barrier on the outside of the circuit.
The visibly shaken Peroni was extracted from his car and did walk to the medical car unaided before he was taken to a local hospital for checks where it was discovered he had a fractured vertebrae.
The kerb which had been in place was subsequently removed once the race had finished before the third Formula 1 practice session.
Sunday's Sprint Race is scheduled to get underway at 9:35am local time.
