DS Automobiles has confirmed it will withdraw from Formula E at the end of Season 12, shifting its focus to its alliance with SailGP.

Announcing their departure from Formula E on Thursday, this marks the second team to leave the sport in as many seasons following NEOM McLaren last year.

DS have a rich history in the sport, arriving in Season 2, partnering with Virgin Racing, before moving to Techeetah in 2018., its most recent tenure being with Penske since 2023.

The manufacturer can boast impressive stats from its time in Formula E, scoring 18 victories and 55 podiums in 140 races. This includes two Teams’ Championships and 2 Drivers’ Championships – Jean-Éric Vergne in Season 5 and António Félix da Costa in Season 6.

In a statement, DS Automobiles confirmed its intentions to depart, outlining its rational.

“At the end of Season 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, DS Automobiles is changing its sporting commitment to explore new areas of technological innovation. Within this framework, the Brand is focusing on its title partnership with SailGP Team France announced on January 15, 2026 and thus opening a new chapter in its evolution,” the statement read.

The company also confirmed that the opportunity to innovate within sailing was a major factor behind the move, revealing its excitement at the start of its new chapter.

“While being as close as possible to the Brand’s customers, competition sailing is a particularly rich laboratory for experimenting with new approaches. The work carried out on aerodynamic efficiency, drag reduction, the search for lightness through advanced work on composite materials and the software field, offer particularly interesting areas of research within automotive development.

As an extension of the high-tech excellence that characterises the Brand, this strategic long-term partnership with SailGP Team France aims to push the limits of innovation further while exploring a new emotional aspect.

DS Automobiles remains fully committed to Formula E until the end of Season 12. This weekend, the Brand will start the Madrid E-Prix with the aim of returning to the podium and finishing this season among the championship’s leading teams.”

While DS will depart, Stellantis is rumoured to be remaining on the grid, with an announcement expected confirming the arrival of Opel.
