Two members of McLaren’s Driver Development Programme have been rubber-stamped for the Formula E rookie test in Madrid next week.

The inaugural Madrid E-Prix, held at Circuito del Jarama, will see one of the all-electric championship‘s frequent FP0 slots.

With the forthcoming Gen4 era fast approaching, there may be many young talents eyeing Formula E as a potential career avenue, and the challenge of the classic 1970s and 80s Formula 1 venue will provide a true test of mettle.

Envision is sticking with continuity by opting to deploy Ella Lloyd, who drove for the team in the all-women’s test last November.

The Welsh youngster previously tested for the Woking-based organisation’s FE team before its withdrawal.

“I’m really looking forward to driving the Formula E car again with Envision Racing,” Lloyd said.

“The test last year in Valencia was a fantastic experience and I learnt a great deal from the team. I’m excited to build on that progress and continue developing in Madrid.”

Lola has also continued with its previous rookie test entrant, Hugh Barter, the Australian-Japanese also acting as the team’s simulator driver.

But joining him will be a newer addition to the McLaren setup – former Formula 2 driver and race-winner, Richard Verschoor.

The Dutchman was added to its roster last December, and has agreed to handing him the chance to experience the world’s fastest-accelerating racing car for the first time.

“I’m excited to be joining Lola Yamaha ABT for the Rookie Test in Madrid. Driving the T001 will be my first outing in a Formula E car. I’m eager to learn and push forward together with the team.”

Lloyd will hotfoot it to Madrid from Shanghai, where she will be competing in the opening round of the F1 Academy championship, and the multiple F1A race-winner will be looking to build on her impressive fourth-place finish in 2025.
