Kiro rookie ‘can’t ask for more’ after scoring first Formula E points

Pepe Marti has firmly shown he can mix it in Formula E

The Mexico City E-Prix saw Pepe Marti score his first points in Formula E, a result that looked unlikely after a series of negative situations.

The Spaniard, in just his second race in the electric championship, finished seventh at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Marti’s result puts him ahead of team-mate Dan Ticktum in the Formula E standings, the Brit having retired due to damage sustained in a collision.

Marti received a 10-second penalty for the inverter replacement, MGU, and a change during the second free practice session.

Furthermore, due to a penalty he received at the end of the São Paulo E-Prix, Marti had to start from the last box in the grid, making the result even more unbelievable.

“I am obviously very satisfied with today’s final result,” the Red Bull junior driver said. “Finishing seventh after starting from the back with a 10-second stop-go penalty, you really can’t ask for more”.

But despite the points obtained, Marti doesn’t hide the fact that Cupra Kiro still has work to do: “From inside the car, I think there are some things I could have done better throughout the race, but we can still be very proud of how it all went.”

The rookie driver of the Silverstone-based squad showed resilience after his terrifying accident at the opening round in Brazil, which fortunately left him unharmed.

“It’s a great feeling to get my first Formula E points here in Mexico,” he said. “I’m very excited for the team’s home race.”

The Formula E Circus is arriving at Miami, United States, for the third round of the 12th season later this month.
