IndyCar veteran Will Power completed his first test laps with his new team on Wednesday.

Power climbed behind the wheel of his #26 Andretti Global Honda to get a feel for the new ride and begin work with his new crew.

The day was officially run as a Firestone test session, giving the tire manufacturer a chance to gather some real world data to compare against their simulations ahead of the track’s return to the schedule.

The few drivers in attendance also used the day to get back in the groove, however, and Power was able to learn some of the intricacies of his new team.

“It’s funny,” said Power after a few runs. “You feel very out of place, but once you get in the car and you get rolling then it’s just like ‘Oh, it’s an IndyCar.’

“Just going through the same processes. Very good first few runs. Now we got plenty of work to do. Nice to feel the Honda engine. It’s very good. Very good.

“Definitely looking forward to getting in amongst a lot more cars to see where we stack up.”

Power is driving for a new team for the first time in 17 years, having competed nearly all of his professional career with Team Penske.

Even though his new contract was confirmed in early September, he was not able to work with Andretti properly until his Team Penske contract ended at the start of the new year.

The 44-year-old completed a seat fitting and various other tasks in the shop in the past week, and wasted no time getting on track with Honda power for the first time.

Power’s first race weekend with Andretti comes in just under two months’ time at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
