Racing Point has ‘plenty more upgrades in the pipeline’

Racing Point have "plenty more upgrades in the pipeline" according to team principal Otmar Szafnauer as they seek to overhaul the midfield battle.

The midfield fight is hugely competitive this season with fourth-placed McLaren just 17 points ahead of Alfa Romeo in ninth, with the top three well clear and Williams bringing up the rear with zero points.

Racing Point finds itself in the middle of the battle, two points ahead of Toro Rosso and nine behind Renault which jumped from seventh to fifth in the standings thanks to its double points finish in Canada.

Therefore one good result can make the difference and Szafnauer is keen to capitalise on that by pushing the team until the very end of the season.

"This weekend's race in France means we’ve already done a third of the season. We’re sitting in sixth place in the championship and have scored points in five out of seven races.

"It’s very tight in the midfield and I can see the fight going all the way to the last race. That’s why it’s paramount that we continue scoring points consistently. It’s fair to say race pace has been our strength, while we need to improve our qualifying performance," he explained.

In the hope of jumping their rivals, the team is aiming to bring upgrades to every race prior to F1's summer break in August.

"We have taken some good steps forward with the car since the start of the year and there’s plenty more upgrades in the pipeline too.

"When the middle of the grid is separated by tenths of a second, you’ve got to bring performance steps to the track as soon as you can and that’s our focus in the lead up to the summer break."
