Formula E confirms 2019/20 season rule and regulation changes

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship has confirmed a number of rule and regulation changes for Season 6 following the FIA World Motorsport Council meeting in Paris.

Commencing on November 22 in Ad Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, Formula E's sixth season of competition will see a 10kW power increase in Attack Mode, with the available power when using the device rising from 225kW to 235kW.

Furthermore, drivers will no longer be able to use Attack Mode under Full Course Yellow or safety car conditions in contrast to the series' present season, with drivers having to drive through the designated Attack Zone at each race during green flag conditions.

During safety car and Full Course Yellow conditions, drivers will have a fixed amount of energy subtracted – the equivalent of 1kWh per minute – with this ensuring that a strategic element remains in each race with drivers unable to save energy when driving at low speeds.

For Season 6, one point will also be available to the fastest driver in the group qualifying stages while three points will also be scored by the polesitter of each race. One point will also be scored by the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race inside the top 10.

Making its debut in Formula E's present Season 5 campaign, the lifecycle of the series' current Gen2 car has also been extended and will remain in use until the end of Season 8 although the car will see constant development including increases in power, improvements in battery life and evolution of bodywork.

Twin MGUs, as used by Nissan e.dams in Season 5, will also be outlawed for next season, meaning that teams will be forced to utilise a single MGU package.
