Kalle Rovanpera snatched the lead of CER in Saturday’s first stage to lead Ogier by 0.7 seconds until the championship leader understeered wide in a high-speed, leaf-covered section and struck a tree on the next stage, his GR Yaris suffering heavy front-left damage in a 10G impact. Both he and co-driver Vincent Landais were unharmed, but the incident echoed the crash that ended Ogier’s rally at the same event 12 months ago.
After the morning loop, Rovanpera leads Elfyn Evans by 39.2 seconds.
Ogier explained during an interview that he had a puncture that he was unaware of as his tyre sensor wasn’t working, which led to his Yaris understeering off the road.
