The Automobile Club de l'Ouest has increased the number of entrants for the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans from 60 to 62, after pulling two further entries from the reserve list to the entry list.

To accomodate the two extra entries, the ACO has said it will be building two additional pit garages between the Module Sportif and the first garages of the existing pit building, and these will be in place from the test day on June 2nd until the end of the race on June 16th.

The two cars joining the now record-breaking number of entries on June 15th are United Autosports' #20 Ligier JS P217 and High Class Racing's ORECA 07.

Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO, explains: “In February, the selection committee faced a harder task than it has in many years."

“There were 75 applications – all of a high standard – and it was particularly difficult to choose 60, 'only' 60 of them should I say. We quickly came to the conclusion that we had to find a way to accept additional competitors, and our team here at the ACO confirmed the feasibility of adding two garages to the pit lane.

We got to work and are overjoyed to be able to welcome 62 entrants for the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans. It’s a record number and a sign that this race is as popular as ever.”

The reserve list for the 87th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans now has five teams remaining. The three LMP2 outfits of Eurasia Motorsport, Panis Barthez Competition and IDEC Sport top the list, with Team Project 1 and TF Sport's respective second GTE Am entries complete the remaining reserves. Ebimotors and Meyer Shank Racing were placed on the reserve list but have since withdrawn
