Andretti has announced Aston Martin Formula 1 reserve driver Felipe Drugovich will be racing alongside Jake Dennis for Season 12 of Formula E.

Drugovich is no stranger to FE, having partaken in the Berlin E-Prix weekend in July for Mahindra, taking points in the second race of the double-header.

Beyond the all-electric series, Drugovich has experience in a multitude of other racing series, winning the Formula 2 championship back in 2022.

He was then picked up by Aston Martin, acting as a reserve driver for the Silverstone-based team and has taken part in FP1 sessions.

Alongside his reserve driver duties in F1, he’s taken part in the 24 hours of Le Mans and in IMSA, all with Cadillac.

And now gets his first full-time single-seater shot since his F2 success, replacing Nico Mueller, whose departure was announced on Tuesday.

Andretti’s Team Principal Rogers Griffiths, spoke about the new addition, saying in a statement: “I am personally very excited to welcome Felipe to the Andretti Formula E team.

“Felipe is a driver who has been on our radar for some time. We have watched his progress throughout various Formula E test sessions with a great deal of interest.

He’s a fast and intelligent driver who has already demonstrated he can quickly adapt to the demands of the Championship, as we saw during his debut in Berlin.

With the GEN4 car in FE looking to take the series to new heights, with speed hopefully matching F2, the series’ future is bright.

Andretti hopes to head into this new era with a strong line-up, and Drugovich is getting a season to adjust to the series before the GEN4 comes in.

“As we look at the re-development of the team under our new ownership structure,” Griffiths added.

“We see Felipe working alongside Jake as a hugely important part of both our present and our future in the series.

“We would also like to thank Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team for their support in allowing Felipe to fully commit to this exciting new chapter in Formula E with Andretti Global.”

Drugovich: ‘Staying connected’ with Andretti has led to full-time Formula E drive

Drugovich said he has been in regular contact with the team since his F2 triumph three years ago, and conveyed his excitement at the move, saying: “I’m so happy to announce that I’ll be joining Andretti Formula E, and I’m really excited about what’s ahead.

“My team and I have been in touch with Andretti ever since I won the Formula 2 title. So it’s great that we’ve managed to stay connected all this time and finally have the opportunity to work together.”

Despite racing occasionally in series such as ELMS and IMSA, Drugovich hasn’t raced full-time since his championship-winning F2 season, previously holding off for a chance at an F1 seat.

“It’s been far too long for me without racing,” he added. “So I’m incredibly motivated to get back on a racetrack.

“It means a lot to know I’ll be competing in every session and not just serving as a reserve, as I have done the past few years.

“I’m very thankful to the entire Andretti Global organisation for believing in my potential and for being so supportive.

“A special thanks also to Roger for reaching out and making this happen.

“I’m focused, motivated and excited for the future. I know that Andretti has all the tools in place for me to achieve success. I’m confident this new chapter together will be a memorable one.”
