Single-seater veteran Jake Hughes will contest this year’s FIA Formula 3 Championship with HWA RACELAB.
Hughes, 24, debuted in the GP3 Series in 2016 and switched to European Formula 3 in 2017, before returning to GP3 last year with ART Grand Prix, placing eighth in the standings.
FIA Formula 3 has replaced GP3 on Formula 1’s support bill, with the Mercedes-linked HWA RACELAB squad one of 10 teams accepted onto the grid.
The series is carrying out a shakedown of its F3/19 machine at Magny Cours today (Wednesday).
Hughes is the latest driver to be confirmed for the championship, after Jenzer signed Artem Petrov, and Campos recruited Alessio Deledda.
“HWA has such a long-standing experience in motorsport, I’m delighted to be part of the family now” said Hughes.
“It’s an exciting phase in the history of the company and I get to help write a new chapter.
“I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. Together we will take on Formula 3 and compete against the absolute top teams in single-seater racing.
“I can’t wait for the season to get started and to battle for wins.”
