The #43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca of PJ Hyett will start from pole position for the Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, after snatching the fastest lap time in LMP2 qualifying right at the death.
In a session featuring multiple incidents but no red flags, the American pipped the #22 United Autosports USA Oreca of Daniel Goldberg to pole in the dying seconds of the session.
Rounding out the top three in the class was the #11 TDS Racing Oreca of Steven Thomas.
The #8 Tower Motorsports Oreca 07 of Renger van der Zande set the fastest lap times in the opening practice sessions on Friday.
His team-mate, John Farano, goes racing at his home track along with fellow Canadians Phil Fayer and Chris Cumming.
Hawksworth fastest in GTD class and Verhagen in GTD Pro
In the opening session of qualifying, Jack Hawksworth went quickest in the GTD class in the #12 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus.
The British driver fended off a challenge from Russell Ward, who was a couple of tenths back in the #57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG.
The #36 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette of Robert Wickens completed the top three in the class.
Neil Verhagen in the #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW claimed the fastest time in the GTD Pro class with a 1:15.046s
Taking second place was the #14 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus of Aaron Telitz, Antonio Garcia behind him in the #3 Corvette racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette.
Hyett takes LMP2 class pole ahead of Goldburg
Gar Robinson set the banker lap of the LMP2 class session in the #74 Riley Oreca before the lap times started to vastly improve.
Jeremy Clarke was the first under the 70-second mark with a 1:09.823s in the #43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca as Hyett went narrowly quicker by just 0.024s.
Goldberg went three-tenths quicker with a 1:08.986s to snatch provisional pole after nearly 10 minutes of the LMP2 class session.
With five minutes to go, Clarke lost the rear of his car heading into Turn 2, going down the hill, spinning off and around into the wall before being able to get going again.
No red flag was issued as qualifying continued whilst the American returned to the pits with his session over.
Another incident occurred with the yellow flags being waved at the final corner as home favourite Farano made slight contact with the barriers.
He managed to keep going and not disturb too many flying laps as the chequered flag soon came out, with a few drivers setting personal best sector times.
Right at the death, Hyett stole pole position with a 1:08.888, just under a tenth quicker than Goldburg.
Replays showed that Farano was sent into the wall by a fellow Canadian racing driver, the #2 United Autosports USA Oreca of Fayer, who made contact with the Tower Motorsports car before the finish line.
