Christian Horner's sacking has sent ripples throughout F1

Formula E star Dan Ticktum has commented on the sacking of Christian Horner by Red Bull, saying the Formula 1 giants has a ‘divide’ in its camp.

Horner was fired by the Milton Keynes-based squad on Tuesday after holding the position of Team Principal for 20 years.

Ticktum was a Red Bull junior between 2017 and 2019, subsequently spending time with Marko, a longstanding discoverer of young talent.

Speaking exclusively to Motorsport Week ahead of this weekend’s Berlin E-Prix, Ticktum discussed the reasons behind the departure of Horner, and said that its “biggest asset” is star driver Max Verstappen.

“Well, there’s obviously a bit of a divide in that camp, and it’s been known for a while,” he told Motorsport Week. “Look, I’m not there enough.

“All I can say is I got on very well with Helmut and Christian, but I didn’t spend a lot of time with him.

“Their biggest asset is Max, isn’t it, really, at the end of the day? And he’s already nine years, ten years into his F1 career.

“He’s still got a fair old chunk of time left, but if I were Red Bull… look, who knows? It’s not really my place to comment.

“There’s a few speculations online – it’s either Verstappen and his management team have gone ‘right, Christian leaves, or we go’, or Verstappen’s already gone, and they’re just going to try and reshape the team entirely.

“Red Bull hasn’t been doing as well as it has a couple of years previous. It’s sort of on a bit of a decline. People are leaving, Newey’s left.

“So who knows, honestly? But it’s not really my place to comment.”
