Fernando Alonso undecided on racing future post-Le Mans

Two-time Formula 1 World Champion Fernando Alonso says he is yet to make up his mind on his racing plans post-Le Mans.

Alonso opted against continuing in F1 this year and is contracted to complete the remainder of the World Endurance Championship season with Toyota, which concludes at June’s Le Mans 24 Hours.

Alonso is also set to compete at this weekend’s Daytona 24 Hours and will undertake a second attempt at the Indianapolis 500.

He also participated in a promotional car swap with seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson in Bahrain last November.

But he has ruled out any notion of a switch to NASCAR, telling IndyCar.com that “there’s nothing in the plans at the moment.

"I can’t say never ever, but right now in the short term, it’s not in the plans.

“It would be starting from zero and learning everything, and the schedule is super intense. I don’t feel like it’s the right moment now.”

Alonso will remain affiliated with McLaren through their collaboration at this year’s Indianapolis 500 and last year it was suggested he could test its 2019 Formula 1 car.

"I’m busier this year than I was last year," he added as he prepares to tackle the Daytona 24 Hours for a second time.

"It’s something that I didn’t expect. People are asking me how it’s like now without Formula 1.

"I’m like, ‘Maybe I’ll come back to Formula 1 to rest!"
