Action Express Racing have shown a strong hand in the opening free practice session ahead of this weekend's Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Under drying conditions, the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac of Felipe Nasr was fastest in DPi with a time of 01:36:108. That gave the Brazilian the edge over Action Express team-mate Felipe Albuquerque, who was some six tenths behind in the #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac.
Rounding out the top three was Tristan Vautier in the #85 JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillac. Notably, neither of the Team Penske Acuras set a lap time in the first practice session.
In LMP2, the #81 of Sweden's Henrik Hedman beat out his team-mate Sebastian Saavedra in the #18. The other two LMP2 entries of Performance Tech Motorsports and PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports did not run.
Porsche grabbed a GTLM 1-2 in the opening session, with the #911 of Patrick Pilet clocking a 01:45:334, beating compatriot Mathieu Jaminet in the #912 by nearly a second. Third in class was Joey Hand in the #66 Ford GT.
Corey Lewis took top honours in GTD in the #48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3, narrowly beating out Kelvin van der Linde in the #88 WRT Speedstar Audi R8 LMS GT3. Behind them, Aaron Telitz completed the top three in the #12 AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3.
Free practice at Daytona resumes at 1:30 PM local time.
