The NTT IndyCar Series made a trip to the St. Louis area for the first short oval of the season, and did so with an event under the lights.

After multiple drivers looked to have a chance at winning the chaotic race, it was Kyle Kirkwood who came out on top to earn his first oval victory of his IndyCar career.

Pato O’Ward was second and Christian Rasmussen crossed the line third, earning his first podium in the process and passing more drivers than any other along the way.

The biggest incident of the day involved Louis Foster and Josef Newgarden. Foster spun on the front stretch and slid towards the inside wall, when Newgarden’s #2 entry smashed into his car.

Newgarden was pinched against the inside wall and flipped upside down, sparks flying under the lights. The most successful driver at WWTR was able to walk away, but his day was obviously done.

The night time event brought plenty of action, but there is no time to recover. Drivers head to Road America next weekend to tackle the longest course of the year.
