Robin Frijns heads Oliver Rowland in morning session of in-season FE test

Envision Virgin Racing's Robin Frijns headed the morning session of Formula E's in-season test following the inaugural Ad Diriyah E-Prix.

Frijns, who returns to Formula E in Season Five after spending one year off the grid, topped the session by setting a best time of a 1m 10.544s, completing 37 laps of the 2.495km-long street circuit.

Holding a 0.891s advantage over the next car, Oliver Rowland was second fastest for Nissan e.dams, sharing driving duties with Carmen Jorda, with teams being able to run two cars if they elect to install a female racing driver in the second machine.

Mitch Evans set the third fastest time in his Jaguar I-TYPE 3, 0946s adrift of Frijn's pace as the British marque's sole runner of the day, with Nelson Piquet Jr not participating in the test.

HWA Racelab's Gary Paffett followed Evans in fourth, 0.030s adrift of the Kiwi while Alexander Sims completed the top five for BMW i Andretti Motorsport, driving the team's iFE.18 machine.

For Formula E rookie Felipe Massa, it was sixth fastest, with the Brazilian racer lapping the 2.495km-long Riyadh Street Circuit in 1m 11.896s, heading Nico Muller who was seventh as the sole runner of Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler.

Ad Diriyah E-Prix podium finisher Jerome d'Ambrosio was eighth for Mahindra Racing, heading NIO Formula E's Oliver Turvey and DS Techeetah's Andre Lotterer who completed the top 10, 0.171s behind the ninth-placed Turvey after completing 28 laps of running.

Driving the Penske EV-3, Maximilian Gunther was 11th fastest for GEOX Dragon while Sebastien Buemi was 12th in the second Nissan e.dams entry, headling Simona de Silvestro, Tatiana Calderon and Katherine Legge who completed the top 15 for Mahindra Racing.

Beitske Visser was 16th fastest in the second BMW iFE.18 and was followed by Britain's Jamie Chadwick in 17th. 

Pippa Mann was 18th in the second GEOX Dragon while Carrie Schreiner and Amna Al Qubaisi completed the top 20 in for HWA and Envision Virgin.
