HWA Racelab has confirmed that Carrie Schreiner will make her debut behind the wheel of a Formula E car at the post-Ad Diriyah E-Prix in-season test, standing in for the recently injured Sophia Flörsch.

Schreiner, 20, has been driving GT machinery in recent seasons, competing in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series as well as taking the overall win in Glass 1 (GT3) of the DMV GTC.

For the post-race test, she will conduct her testing duties alongside reigning DTM champion Gary Paffett and now former McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne at the Mercedes-affiliated HWA squad.

“I’ve driven quite a few racing cars before, but I’m sure that I’ll find sitting behind the wheel of a fully electric formula racing car for the first time will be an absolutely unique experience,” she said.

“Over the next few weeks, I will be fully focused on preparing as much as possible for the test. December 16 can’t come around fast enough.”

It was originally the intention of HWA to run Formula 3 driver Sophia Flörsch at the in-season test, however, the 17-year-old German was injured in a horror crash at the Macau Grand Prix.

Undergoing surgery following her accident, Flörsch recently flew home to Germany to recover further.

“We are pleased to have found in Carrie a good substitute for Sophia and are very pleased to give this young talent the chance to gain her first experience in such an exciting and future-oriented race series as Formula E,” said Ulrich Fritz, CEO of HWA.

“Carrie has excelled at the wheel of a variety of racing cars over the past few years and I’m sure she’ll quickly find her feet on her debut in an electric formula racing car as well.

“The weekend is a first both for Carrie and for us as a team. We can hardly wait to finally get started.

“Still, we are also, of course, thinking of Sophia, for whom we would also like to have made this testing possible. However, the important thing now is that she concentrates on making a speedy recovery.

"We wish her all the best and get well soon.”

By getting confirmed by HWA Racelab, Schreiner has become the latest name in a long list of impressive female drivers to be taking part in the test, with Tatiana Calderon, Katherine Legge, Simone de Silvestro, Jamie Chadwick and Carmen Jorda representing DS Techeetah, Mahindra, Venturi, NIO and Nissan e.dams respectively.

The new season of Formula E will commence on December 15 with the inaugural Ad Diriyah E-Prix while one day of testing will follow on December 16.
