Oliver Rowland will start Race 1 of the Formula E Tokyo E-Prix on pole position, despite the qualifying session being cancelled due to heavy rainfall.
FE rules state that if qualifying cannot go ahead, then the grid order for the race will be determined by the times set in the final free practice session.
Therefore, the Nissan driver took pole by default after topping the timesheets in FP2 earlier in the morning, with a 1:32.525s.
Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara will start second, his time over six tenths ahead of the title-leader, with the second Nissan of Norman Nato third.
Taylor Barnard of NEOM McLaren will line-up in second place, with the second Mahindra of Nyck de Vries fifth, and Sebastien Buemi – victorious in Monaco two weeks ago – in sixth.
Row four will be occupied by Cupra Kiro’s Dan Ticktum and DS Penske’s Jean-Eric Vergne.
Vergne’s team-mate Maximilian Guenther will start ninth, with Robin Frijns rounding-up the top 10.
Antonio Felix da Costa, who is looking to close the gap in the title race to Rowland, will start 11th, with the second Tag Heuer Porsche of Pascal Wehrlein 17th.
The two Jaguar TCS Racing cars of Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans will start a lowly 13th and 19th respectively.
Current forecasts predict a slight improvement in the conditions for the race [7.05am UK time], with no guarantee of a go-ahead as of yet.
