Wayne Taylor muses on his team racing in WEC and IMSA in 2026

Wayne Taylor, owner of Wayne Taylor Racing, has raised the possibility of his team racing in both the IMSA Sportscar Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship simultaneously next year.

On an IMSA-hosted media Zoom call ahead of the next round of the IMSA championship, which Taylor was on, he told media about the possibility of a dual European-American campaign. He appeared on the call with his sons, Ricky Taylor and Jordan Taylor, who both race for the team.

“I’ve had this thought over the last couple of days,” he began, “that maybe next year we’ll present Cadillac and GM and all our partners.”

“What about if we do one car in WEC next year and one car in America? I know that might not make my drivers happy, but you know, at the end of the day, we thrive on our passion, which is racing and to win.”

Wayne Taylor Racing has raced in IMSA-affiliated championships for many years. For 2025, after two years racing then Acura ARX-06 in the DPi class, the team switched to a factory-supported Cadillac programme with two V-Series.R LMDh cars in the IMSA Sportscar Championship.

But, with Taylor raising the possibility of the team switching to single-car programmes in both classes, this would be a huge shakeup for the factory Cadillac team.

WEC will “naturally help” for Le Mans

When asked to expand on this, the South African said, “It’s really just something I’m floating around in my own head. I think this is probably coming as a shock to the two drivers — they probably haven’t even heard this from me. And certainly, I haven’t discussed it with our partners. So, I could get into trouble, but it just seems to make sense to me.”

“You know, Le Mans is so important to General Motors and to Cadillac. And I’m thinking, we have a great opportunity this year — but I’m a realist. Sometimes things take more time. The way Le Mans and the WEC operate — it’s a European racing culture, which is different from the American way of going racing. I think some of those small things that a team learns in WEC will naturally help when you get to Le Mans.”

Taylor’s team will race for the first time at Le Mans this year, with a single Cadillac V-Series.R, numbered #101, for the two Taylor brothers and co-driver Filipe Albuquerque. They will race within a four-car Cadillac programme, alongside JOTA, who race a two-car factory Cadillac programme in WEC, and a single car from Action Express, who race a third Cadillac alongside Wayne Taylor Racing in IMSA.

“Having said that, we’re good friends with JOTA,” Taylor continued.

“I think Ricky has driven for them twice. They actually partnered with us at Daytona one year — well, I wouldn’t say they ‘partnered’ with us exactly, but they worked out of our race shop with us. So we have a close relationship there.”

“But you know how it is when you get to a race — everybody’s out for themselves,” he finished.
