Haas has lodged a protest against Force India’s cars, ahead of this weekend’s Formula 1 season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Haas currently holds fifth in this year’s Constructors’ Championship while Force India re-entered the series mid-season, following its takeover by the Racing Point Group.
Force India occupies seventh in the standings with one round remaining.
A bulletin issued by the FIA on Thursday evening revealed that a protest by Haas against the Racing Point Force India Cars 11 and 31 (Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon) had been lodged.
No further details were communicated, other than confirming that the stewards will meet to discuss the protest at 11:00 on Friday.
It is believed the issue is related to Force India's use of the VJM11 car following its continuation in the championship under a new entry, as F1 rules stipulate that each team must own the intellectual property rights to their design.
It is unclear if the Racing Point Group owns the design rights, or if they remain with former team owner Vijay Mallya and his shareholders.
When Force India re-entered the championship mid-season the majority of teams gave it the green light to retain its previous prize money allocation.
But Haas believes the Racing Point-owned Force India operation should have to oblige to the rules that it abided by when it joined Formula 1 in 2016, having been ineligible for certain payment strands until this year.
