Incoming Suzuki MotoGP rider Joan Mir underwent his first test on the GSX-RR at a private outing at Motegi following the Malaysian Grand Prix, according to team boss Davide Brivio.

2017 Moto3 world champion Mir will step up to the premier class with Suzuki next year having spent just one season in Moto2, and will make his official debut on Tuesday at the post-Valencia GP test.

In preparation for this, Mir travelled to Motegi following the Sepang race at the start of the month to join test rider Sylvain Guintoli at a private outing on the GSX-RR.

Brivio confirmed the test was to allow the team to adjust the bike to Mir's riding position as not to “waste too much time” doing so on Tuesday at the Ricardo Tormo circuit.

Speaking on Friday in Valencia, Brivio said: “Yes, we had an opportunity to test with Joan Mir.

“After Sepang we went to Motegi, because Sylvain Guintoli was testing the bike; we had a normal test planned.

“So he came there and had the opportunity to make some laps on the bike. We wanted to fix his riding position and for him to be a little bit more, let's say, prepared for Tuesday.

“So we set up his position to not waste too much time on Tuesday and Wednesday. So yeah, he did some laps.”

Brivio remained tight-lipped on his first impressions of the young Spaniard's debut MotoGP ride, but proclaimed it to be “good”.

Mir's sole season in the Moto2 class saw him finish up in sixth in the championship standings on 155 points having amassed four podiums, while also taking top rookie honours.

The Spaniard follows in the footsteps of Maverick Vinales, who only spent a year in Moto2 before making his MotoGP debut with Suzuki in 2015, and took the marque to its first win in a decade in '16 at Silverstone.

Mir will be one of four rookies stepping up to MotoGP in '19, along with Fabio Quartararo [SIC Petronas Yamaha], world champion Francesco Bagnaia [Pramac] and Miguel Oliveira [Tech3].
