Former Williams-affiliated driver Zak O’Sullivan is to appear for Envision Racing in the Formula E rookie test at next month’s Jeddah E-Prix.

O’Sullivan, who was part of the Grove squad’s Driver Academy, will be behind the wheel of an FE car for the first time, as the young Brit limbers-up for his first season in the Japanese Super Formula category, which commences in early March.

In a statement, Envision Team Principal Sylvain Filippi said: “We are thrilled to have Zak joining the team and drive in the first rookie session of the year.

“We have been very impressed with his results to date and look forward to watching how he adapts to Formula E and integrates within our team.”

At just 19 years old, O’Sullivan has an impressive racing pedigree, taking the GB3 Championship in 2021, before moving to Formula 3.

After finishing runner-up in his second season with Prema – in which he took four wins and one podium – he moved to Formula 2 for 2024, racing for ART.

Taking two wins – the Monaco Feature and the Spa-Francorchamps Sprint – the season was a successful but ultimately unfulfilled one, pulling out post-Monza with three weekends left due to funding problems.

His year did end on a very high note with an FP1 run-out with other rookies for Williams at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, having partaken in the same session the year before.

He would follow this up with more laps in the FW45 in the following week’s young drivers’ test at the Yas Marina Circuit.

His first drive in an F1 car became in 2022, driving the Aston Martin AMR21 at Silverstone, coming off the back of his win of the Autosport BRDC Award.

Driving for Kondo Racing in Super Formula, O’Sullivan is one of only four non-Japanese drivers for this coming season, and joins a host of famous alumni from the competition, which has given drives to Stoffel Vandoorne, Pierre Gasly, Álex Palou and new Red Bull signing Liam Lawson.
