Romain Grosjean accepts he "hasn’t delivered" what he should have done in some Formula 1 race this season, but hopes it is a "past story" and he can now head off in the right direction.
Haas holds fifth position in the Constructors’ Championship but allowed opportunities to slip through its grasp early in the year.
While mechanical problems hurt Grosjean in Australia and Bahrain, and a lack of pace and strategy deficiencies impacted his prospects elsewhere, several incidents compromised the Frenchman’s chances.
Grosjean crashed behind the Safety Car in Azerbaijan, triggered a multi-car pile-up on the opening lap in Spain, and crashed out of qualifying in France prior to sustaining a time penalty in the race.
When asked about his future, Grosjean replied: "There’s a lot of talk in the paddock and a lot of speculation all the time.
"There aren’t a lot of drivers with a lot of experience as well, maybe I can go somewhere and develop the team, but my main option is to stay here and keep doing our good business.
"As I said a few times I think the team knows what I’ve brought since day one, and I know I haven’t delivered what I should have delivered in some races this year.
"Hopefully it’s a past story and now we’re back on a good path."
Grosjean added his belief that the events post-summer should be well-suited to the characteristics of Haas’ VF-18.
"With the shutdown I don’t think people are going to [find more] and anyway people are now going to focus on next year," he said.
"Actually I think the second half of the season is more playing into our hands in terms of circuit layouts and strengths, so I’m looking forward to racing here and then to racing in Spa and Monza and Singapore and everywhere else we’re going.
"We’ve got a great car, a team that is improving race after race with experience and it’s just been very positive."
