Charouz Racing System is to appeal against the grid penalty issued to Antonio Fuoco in the aftermath of the most recent Formula 2 round in Hungary.
Fuoco, having taken a podium in the Feature Race, clipped the rear of Sergio Sette Camara at the conclusion of a Virtual Safety Car phase in the Sprint Race.
Fuoco ducked into the pits for repairs and during this period was judged to have exceeded the speed limit, and was handed a five-second time penalty.
Usually such a penalty would be added to the driver’s elapsed race time, or during a pit stop, albeit with services not compulsory during the Sprint Race.
Fuoco came into the pits once more but was judged not to have served the penalty, and as a result, he was handed a three-place grid drop for the next event in Belgium.
Charouz believes Fuoco was penalised “unjustifiably” and “strongly believe that the FIA ​​will reconsider our application again and that this penalty will be forgiven.”
Ferrari-backed Fuoco holds sixth position in the standings, 59 points behind title leader George Russell.
