Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans was quickest in free practice two for the first of two New York City ePrix's, leading the way with a laptime of 1:13.207 at full power.
Following closely behind Evans was Dragon's Jerome d'Ambrosio with a 1:13.594 lap. Racing for hometown heroes Dragon, d'Ambrosio will be looking to finish the season with a win for the team on home soil.
Third fastest of the session was championship contender Sam Bird for DS Virgin Racing, who posted a lap time of 1:13.627.
"I had a good feeling that the car was going to be working well around here," said Evans. "You really need that before you go onto qualifying, to know where your balance is with 200kW. We need to repeat that and get into Super Pole."
With the track conditions proving challenging, all 20 drivers will need to work hard to avoid getting into trouble on the Brooklyn circuit during the next session, qualifying.
"It's so slippery off the racing line, which has caught a few people out. But I guess it's the same for all of us," added Evans.
For NIO Formula E Team's frontman Oliver Turvey, the British driver struggled to make it around the final corner, colliding with the wall and damaging his steering.
Coming into the pits early, both Techeetah cars finished the session early, choosing not to take part in the practice start. Currently leading the way in the teams' championship, the Chinese team will be looking for a strong performance here in New York to finish off the season and claim the title.
Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne was only 14th quickest with a time of 1:14.590, more than 1.3s down on Evans' time.
