The British Grand Prix will get a third DRS zone for this weekend's race, but it's unlike other zones in that it will include two high-speed corners.
Traditionally DRS zones are placed on long-straights before medium to slow speed corners, meaning a driver needs to brake at the end of the zone, which automatically closes the rear-wing flap.
However the FIA has opted to place a third zone on the Silverstone start/finish straight, and with Turns 1 and 2 taken flat-out, it means a driver can, if they're brave enough, take those two turns with DRS activated.
"It's not a big zone, but the interesting thing is that they could use it open through Turn 1 if they wanted to," the FIA's Charlie Whiting told media during the Austrian GP which also featured a third DRS zone.
"Once they activate it after Turn 18, on the exit of the last corner, it only closes when they either brake or back off. They could potentially go through Turns 1 and 2 with it open. Let's see."
Both Abbey and the Farm Curve are high-speed corners taken at around 160mph, but with the added benefit of DRS they could see speed well above that.
The new zone is in addition to the existing zones which are located at Turn 5 (Aintree) and Turn 14 (Chapel).
