Formula E, in partnership with entertainment company Virtually Live, has launched a new game which will allow fans to race against drivers in real-time.
The game, which is a first of its kind in the growing e-sports market, will allow fans to race against drivers on-track as a 'ghost', using live telemetry to replicate the action out on the circuit using CGI to mirror each car's position.
While a large portion of the game is focussed on real-time racing, players will also be able to share their highs and lows with their friends on social media, increasing engagement while this has the potential to create an online community of fellow players.
In addition to social media sharing, players will also be able to test their ability 'behind the wheel' of Formula E's all-electric machinery in a number of real-life scenarios and challenges from races throughout the championship's four seasons of competition.
“I remember before we launched the first-ever season of Formula E, we said fans no longer just want to watch or follow a sport – they want to participate in it too," said Alejandro Agag, Formula E Founder and CEO.
"The cutting-edge technology used to create the live ghost racing game is extraordinary. Thanks to the expertise of Virtually Live, the ABB FIA Formula E Championship has yet again shown it’s at the forefront of developing accessible and inclusive content at the fans fingertips.
"This is another milestone in the arena of esports with Formula E leading the charge,” he added.
