Vettel: Mistakes make you a better driver

Sebastian Vettel has been in the headlines many-a-time this season after errors have plagued the German resulting in two DNF’s and a rather disappointing 15th place finish in Belgium last week.

However, today the Red Bull driver has spoken out in defence of himself stating that “the mistakes make you a better driver.”

Speaking to Germany’s Auto Bild Motorsport, the 23-year old explained, “If everything goes well, you are the greatest. If you make an error, and some people simply do not understand exactly the reasons why, then you very fast become the idiot. The most important thing, therefore, is that I know the truth myself.”

Vettel ended Jenson Button’s race at Spa last week after the German lost control of his Red Bull which then careered into the side of the Brit’s MP4-25, causing fatal damage and leaving Jenson with his second DNF of the season.

“In Spa, I lost the car while overtaking Jenson Button, I make a mistake. But I am open and honest enough to admit that. I’m not proud of it.”

Vettel heads to Monza third in the drivers championship behind his team-mate Mark Webber and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.

EDITORS NOTE
Have your say!  Do you think Vettel is right to just shrug-off these incidents?  Does he need to go back to driving school or is it simply a case of him not being able to over-take?  Tweet us @F1Times with your comments.  The best will appear here later!
