Jermaine Jenas’ future as host of FIA Formula E’s television coverage is, as of yet, undecided, after the former footballer was sacked from the BBC after claims of inappropriate behaviour.

Jenas, 41, was removed by the corporation on Thursday after allegations of “inappropriate messages” to female employees at the BBC were made. He was also subsequently dropped by his management company shortly afterwards.

In a statement, the BBC said: “We can confirm Jermaine Jenas is no longer part of our presenting line-up.”

Jenas has subsequently given an exclusive interview to The Sun in which he admitted to sending the messages, but insisted that he has done “nothing illegal”.

“I feel so ashamed,” he said. “I’ve let everybody down – my colleagues, my friends, and, most importantly, I’ve let my family down.”

Jenas became lead presenter of Formula E’s coverage – which is now shown on TNT Sports in the UK and Ireland – for Season 10, replacing its longstanding host Vernon Kay, but this week’s revelations have cast doubts as to whether he will remain in the role.

Last night, a spokesperson for Formula E said:

“Jermaine Jenas was part of Formula E’s presentation team for Season 10, which ended in July this year.

“As per the process followed in previous Seasons, we will announce our presenter line-up for Season 11 in due course.

“This decision will be carefully considered, taking into account the high standards we expect to be upheld at Formula E.”
