Factory Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia stole the show in the second MotoGP practice in Austria, leading the final classification list ahead of the Pramac Ducati duo of Franco Morbidelli and Jorge Martin.
His lap time of 1.28.508s right at the end of the session saw the Italian set the new lap record around the fast-paced Austrian circuit, with Ducati once again showing its dominance.
Marc Marquez finished in the fourth spot behind the GP24 trio, with KTM’s Brad Binder in the middle of a Gresini Ducati sandwich as younger brother Alex Marquez mustered together a sixth-place finish.
The factory Aprilia duo of Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales followed suit, with the pair separated by 0.010s, ahead of VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi, who booked himself into Q2 following a challenging run of form.
Bagnia’s Ducati team-mate Enea Bastianini secured the final spot into Q2 despite a minor crash at the end of the session, with Tech3 rookie Pedro Acosta missing out by the finest of margins.
Jack Miller’s woes continued aboard his KTM as he finished in 12th, with Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo following closely behind, as the duo finished ahead of LCR Honda runner and recent 8 Hours of Suzuka winner Johann Zarco.
Repsol Honda’s Luca Marini made amends from his first practice session earlier in the day to finish in 16th, ahead of Yamaha rider Alex Rins.
The Trackhouse Racing duo of Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez occupied 18th and 19th spots, with the American outfit continuing its disappointing displays from earlier on in the day.
Ducati’s newest GP25 recruit Fabio Di Giannantonio finished in 20th, opting not to string a run together following a crash at the halfway point in the session.
Pol Espargaro was unable to live up to his first practice performance on his KTM wildcard outing, with the Spanish rider ending his session in 21st.
Honda riders Joan Mir and Takaaki Nakagami occupied 22nd and 23rd, respectively, ahead of Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori and Honda test rider Stefan Bradl.
