The second generation Formula E car, which is set to make its competitive debut later this year when the new 2018/19 season kicks off, has had its first on-track run thanks to DS Performance.

The DS E-TENSE FE 19 ran at DS Performance's factory near Versailles, France, for a demonstration run ahead of next week's group manufacturer test.

The Gen2 car was officially unveiled on March 6 during the Geneva Motor Show and teams have been receiving and building the cars ready for Monday's test at the Monteblanco circuit in southern Spain.

The car features a combination of a 250kW power unit and 54kWh battery that will allow it to complete a full race distance without the need to swap cars half way, something that has been a part of the series since its inaugural season.

DS's director of performance, Xavier Mestelan-Pinon, described the moment as very rewarding for the team.

"With just days to go before Formula E’s first official pre-Season 5 test, it was great to see the DS E-TENSE FE 19 run at our track in Satory," he said.

"The car’s different assemblies had previously been tested on the bench but this is the first time the fully assembled car has turned a wheel. Starting it was a rewarding moment for the team’s technical staff. It’s an occasion you never forget."

DS currently partners Virgin in Formula E but has been tipped to split with the brand at the end of the current 2017/18 season.
