Sebastien Buemi determined to maintain momentum at Mexico City ePrix

Renault e.dams' Sebastien Buemi is targeting a strong result at the Mexico City ePrix as the former champion aims to revive his hopes for a second Formula E championship victory in season four.

After being a contender for the championship throughout the 2016/17 Formula E season, ultimately losing out on the championship to Lucas di Grassi,  Buemi experienced difficult start to his current campaign, taking only one point away from the opening two races of the current season in Hong Kong.

By taking two podiums on the bounce in Marrakesh and Santiago, Buemi has propelled himself into fourth in the Drivers' Championship, albeit 34 points adrift of Techeetah's Jean-Eric Vergne who currently leads.

Heading to Mexico City this weekend, Buemi is determined to slash the gap between himself and Vergne to get his aspirations of a second title back on track:

"I’m delighted to be back in Mexico after my performances in the last two races and I hope that we’ll keep up the momentum," said Buemi.

"We’ve always been quick in free practice in Mexico, but it’s not been the same story in qualifying. 

“We’re determined to put on a good show this year. The track’s pretty atypical as the circuit is well above sea level; the cars behave differently because the air is thinner so it’s a big challenge for the team. 

“We’re going to throw all our forces into the battle to be on the pace by taking advantage of the experience acquired in previous years," he added.

On the other side of the Renault e.dams garage, Nico Prost's story has not quite been the same as Buemi's with the Frenchman lying in a lowly 15th place in the Drivers' Championship with a mere seven points to his name. This is something that the driver is hoping to turn around in Mexico City:

"The early part of the season hasn’t lived up to my expectations,” Prost confessed. “The car was quick in the last race in Santiago so I’m confident I’ll be back fighting at the front. 

“We’re highly motivated, but there’s absolutely nothing in it in the battle between the teams this year."

Through the performances of Buemi and Prost, Renault e.dams lie in fifth place in the Teams' Championship with 44 points, 45 adrift of Techeetah who hold first from Mahindra Racing, making a fourth consecutive title look unlikely for the French outfit.
