Jean-Eric Vergne: ‘I don’t feel any additional pressure as championship leader’

Ahead of this weekend's Mexico City ePrix, Techeetah's Jean-Eric Vergne has revealed that he feels no added pressure despite holding an 11 point lead in the Drivers' Championship.

Earlier this month in Santiago, the Frenchman fronted a historic result for his team, leading his teammate, Andre Lotterer, across the finish line to secure the first ever one-two finish for a team in the all-electric single seater series.

This is a result that ultimately launched Vergne into the lead of the Drivers' Championship while Mark Preston's Techeetah squad also took the lead in the Teams' Championship, jumping DS Virgin Racing and Mahindra, who previously led, in the points standings.

Despite holding an 11 point lead over Felix Rosenqvist who is his nearest challenger, heading to Mexico City this weekend, Vergne remains grounded in his current situation and is taking the 2017/18 season one race at a time as opposed to focusing on the ultimate goal – the Drivers' Championship.

"I don't feel any additional pressure going into this round as championship leader," said Vergne. "For me, it's always one race at the time, no matter where in the standings I am.

"It's still a long way to go in the championship, all drivers and teams in this championship are highly skilled and the competition is fierce.

"The whole team has been working really hard to come as prepared as possible so that we can continue to fight at the front," he added.
