Wayne Taylor Racing will start this weekend's Daytona 24 Hours from the front after Renger van der Zande seized pole from Team Penske's Helio Castroneves at the end of qualifying.
Van der Zande waited until the closing stages of the 15-minute shootout to clock a time of 1:36.083s that unseated long-time leader Castroneves by a margin of 0.007 seconds.
The result marks the Dutchman's first pole in the top prototype category of the IMSA Sportscar Championship, following his switch to defending series champion WTR during the winter.
Van der Zande will share the #10 Cadillac DPi-V.R. this weekend with Jordan Taylor and Ryan Hunter-Reay, while Castroneves will co-drive the #7 Acura DPi with Graham Rahal and former WTR driver Ricky Taylor.
Row two of the grid for Saturday's IMSA season opener will be led by the Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi qualified by Filipe Albuquerque, who turned in a time of 1:36.194s.
18-year-old Patricio O'Ward caused the biggest shock of the afternoon as the 2017 Prototype Challenge class champion and Prototype class rookie rose to fourth in the Performance Tech Motorsports ORECA LMP2.
Like Van der Zande, O'Ward left it late to file his best time, which fell just two tenths shy of overall pole.
Completing the top five was Tristan Vautier, who recovered the Spirit of Daytona Racing Cadillac from a spin midway through the shootout, while Robin Frijns claimed sixth in the best of the Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECAs.
Former Sauber F1 driver Felipe Nasr settled for seventh, after his Action Express Cadillac DPi seized up near the end of the session with a mechanical problem.
Two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso will start the Daytona 24 Hours from 13th position, as the pair of United Autosports Ligiers struggled to latch onto the pace.

In GT Le Mans, defending class champion Jan Magnussen opened his and team-mate Antonio Garcia's title defence with his first Daytona pole aboard the #4 Corvette C7.R.
Magnussen out-paced Joey Hand's Chip Ganassi Racing Ford by 0.019s, while Laurens Vanthoor and Patrick Pilet gathered the pair of Porsche 911 RSRs on the second row.
Ford and Corvette's other cars will share out row three, in front of the Risi Competizione Ferrari and the leading M8 from BMW's GT squadron.
Risi Competizione came closer to pole in GT Daytona, but a quick lap by Spirit of Race driver Daniel Serra meant the Houston-based concern had to settle for second.
Miguel Molina and Lamborghini driver Mirko Bortolotti came close to eclipsing Serra's time of 1:46.049s, but neither managed to find the extra pace to supersede the 2017 Le Mans winner.
Jack Hawksworth and Dominik Baumann raised Lexus to fourth and sixth respectively, sandwiching the WeatherTech Ferrari of defending class champion Alessandro Balzan.
