The FIA has revealed cost details for independent teams to purchase ready-to-race electric machinery for the 2018-2019 season.
In season five, Formula E will use a new chassis that will be powered by a battery designed by McLaren Applied Technologies that will be able to complete a full race distance.
The price caps implemented for season five are designed in order to allow the protection of small and independent teams while the series grows and attracts new manufacturers such as Jaguar, Nissan, Audi, Porsche and Mercedes.
The price of a ready-to-race Formula E car for the 2018-2019 season will not exceed €817,300, with a chassis costing €299,600, a battery costing €200,000, and the Halo device – which will be a new addition to the all-electric series – costing €12,700.
Although a current spec Formula E car costs €480,000, next season will be more affordable than ever, with teams only needing two cars as opposed to four due to the implementation of the longer lasting battery from McLaren, meaning teams will save almost €300,000.
In addition to this, the FIA has confirmed that teams have been given an additional month to complete their 15 days of private testing to October 1 while manufacturers that are supplying powertrains to more than one team will have 22 days of testing.​
