Neel Jani and Dragon part ways after one race weekend

Neel Jani has left Dragon Racing after spending only one Formula E race weekend with the American outfit.

Following Porsche's departure from the World Endurance Championship last season, Jani made his debut in electric machinery in Hong Kong, joining the Dragon team to partner Belgium's Jerome d'Ambrosio.

Prior to the start of season four, Dragon faced a number of setbacks, losing backing from Faraday Future and a scheduled technical partnership with Porsche, which would be similar to Andretti's relationship with BMW, also falling through.

In the season-opening Hong Kong ePrix, Dragon was the only team on the grid that failed to score any points, with Jani finishing in 18th place in both races one lap down, while team-mate d'Ambrosio was also off the pace in the same machinery, retiring in race one and finishing 15th in the second.

"As a result of changes that were unforeseen, Dragon Racing and I have decided that it is in the best interest for the future of the team and myself that we end our alliance," Jani told Autosport.

"I would like to thank Dragon Racing for giving me the opportunity to experience Formula E, and I wish them all the best for the continuing season."

With Jani's departure, Dragon Racing is in a difficult situation and needs to find a suitable replacement with the Marrakesh ePrix only ten days away.

While the team is set to test Maximilian Gunther and Andrea Caldarelli in a rookie test following the Marrakesh race, neither driver qualifies for the seat due to the absence of a Formula E licence.

One feasible option could be Mike Conway, who raced for the team in season three at the Paris ePrix, while Jose Maria Lopez has also been linked to the seat after being dropped by DS Virgin Racing for season four.
