Sarah Bovy was pleased to have claimed her first-ever LMGT3 pole position for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, her home circuit, for the third round of the championship on Saturday 11 May.
Speaking in the post-qualifying press conference, she said: “It’s an amazing feeling to be honest [and] it’s also my first pole position in Spa.
“My first time on the front row so that’s a special feeling.
“… when I did the out-lap, I took a second to watch the Tribune at Raidillon. It was full of people and that was clearly an extra motivation.
“But you know, again, Spa-Francorchamps showed us that it’s a track you need to have the biggest respect for.
“It has its challenges and it was not an easy session, so I’m just happy at the end that I managed to keep my cool and get the maximum out of the car.
“In the first qualifying, it was actually easier [to get the pace out of the Goodyear tyres] because even if we were starting with cold brakes and everything, it was uninterrupted.
“In the second qualifying, I was already launching [at] the first push [when the session continued with seven minutes left].”
Bovy demonstrated the strong pace of her #85 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 after topping both the Q1 and Hyperpole qualifying sessions at the Belgian circuit.
Furthermore, the latter session was initially disrupted by a major crash by Alex Malykhin in the #92 Manthey Porsche 911 at the top of the Eau Rouge-Raidillon complex.
Nevertheless, she took Lamborghini’s first pole since they joined the WEC this year in partnership with Iron Lynx for both their Hypercar and LMGT3 programmes.
After facing misfortune at Imola after contact with a competitor and a torque sensor failure forced them to retire from the race, the team are looking for their second WEC win following last year’s Bahrain finale triumph.
