The grid for the United States Grand Prix looks rather different to the qualifying result after numerous penalties have been applied, with just five drivers remaining in their original places.

The top five of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Valtteri Bottas, Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Raikkonen will remain in their qualifying positions, whilst six penalties applied to the grid have shuffled the remaining 15 drivers up and down.

Max Verstappen took a 15-place penalty for changing engine components, but only drops 11 positions from sixth to 17th. Stoffel Vandoorne meanwhile drops just one position despite a five-place grid penalty.

Nico Hulkenberg and Brendon Hartley took 20 and 25-place penalties respectively and drop just four and two places each, both filling the back row.

Kevin Magnussen and Lance Stroll were both handed three-place drops for blocking during qualifying, but in fact they actually rise two and one places respectively, profiting from the penalties around them.
