Fernando Alonso has unveiled a special helmet design, which he will wear during next weekend’s United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.
Alonso will run a “tribute” helmet based on the scheme that he sported during his Indianapolis 500 run earlier this year.
Alonso changed his usual paint scheme in favour of a predominantly black set-up, featuring red, yellow and blue strips.
Alonso qualified in fifth position for his Indianapolis 500 debut and ran among the leading group in the McLaren-Honda-Andretti entry, before he retired due to an engine failure.
Under current Formula 1 regulations, drivers retain a predominantly similar helmet scheme throughout the year, though are permitted one-off changes.
Haas’ Romain Grosjean will also sport a tweaked scheme as a tribute to MotoGP legend Nicky Hayden, who died earlier this year in the wake of a cycling incident.
