Katherine Legge will drive for Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing for next month’s Indianapolis 500, the team has announced.

DCR revealed on Tuesday that Legge will be driving the team’s #51 entry for the 108th running of the great race, and will have sponsorship from the cosmetic brand e.l.f.

“I’m honored to be back at the 500 to represent such a groundbreaking and historic effort put forward by e.l.f.,” said Legge in the announcement.

“e.l.f. is truly changing the face of motorsports by lifting women up and challenging norms. Janet Guthrie set the stage for this type of moment back in the ‘70s and I’m honored to carry it forward with Dale Coyne Racing with RWR this year.

“When I was nine years old, I decided I wanted to be a race car driver, and I never would have dreamed a beauty brand would one day be my primary sponsor in the Indy 500.

“Together with DCR, Honda, and e.l.f., we will truly empower women who are breaking barriers, pushing boundaries, and testing the limits by giving them the confidence and a path towards realizing their dreams, whatever they may be!”

The upcoming Indy 500 will be the fourth that Legge contests, each with a different team, although she did compete with DCR during the 2007 season in Champ Car.

Last year, Legge was forced to retire after hitting the pit wall during the race’s first pit stop sequence, leaving her with a result in the 33rd and final position.

Tuesday’s announcement gives DCR a driver for the #51 entry for the fifth race of the season, but leaves the car with an unfilled seat for the rest of the year.

Colin Braun piloted the car for the opening round in St. Petersburg and the exhibition event from the Thermal Club, but the driver for the remaining 15 races on the 2024 calendar has not yet been announced.

Legge will be behind the wheel of her new car later this week for the Indy 500 open test that is scheduled to take place April 10 and 11.

She will then be back in the car leading up to the 108th Indianapolis 500, which will be run on Sunday, May 26.
