Rene Rast takes win for Audi after late Jamie Green problem

René Rast kept his DTM title hopes alive as he recorded victory in the second DTM race of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring, after late drama for Jamie Green.

Green dominated proceedings for Audi and preserved a slender advantage over Rast for much of the race, but slowed with just a couple of minutes remaining.

Green, who had been set to close in on title leader Mattias Ekström, relinquished the lead to Rast amid a suspected gearbox problem, with smoke trailing from his car, and tumbled down the order, eventually coming home in 14th place.

Rast, therefore, picked up victory, while Ekström preserved his position atop the standings with a feisty drive to fifth, his progress facilitated by making his mandatory stop on the opening lap.

Mike Rockenfeller was waved through to second by Audi stablemate Nico Muller on the final lap, as the manufacturer claimed another 1-2-3 result.

Gary Paffett was fourth for Mercedes, ahead of Ekström, while Marco Wittmann was involved in the thick of several fights as he took sixth, losing out during a late Safety Car restart.

Timo Glock, Loic Duval, Paul di Resta and Robert Wickens rounded out the top 10.
