The start of qualifying for the German GP lasted just 5 minutes and 30 seconds before Vitantonio Liuzzi dropped his Force India going onto the start/finish straight – resulting in a red flag.

The heavy impact caused the Italian’s front-left to come loose and bounce across the track right in front of Timo Glock who had to swerve to avoid hitting the wheel.

Liuzzi managed to get out of his car unaided, but will now likely start last dependent on whether his gearbox was damaged in the impact.

Lucas Di Grassi didn’t manage to set a time in the first session due to mechanical issues.
