Sebastian Vettel is expecting a very close race on Sunday between Ferrari and Red Bull, with Mercedes also in the mix, after snatching pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Vettel took pole by more than three-tenths to Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, whilst Mercedes were a little further back with title rival Lewis Hamilton starting fifth.

The four-time champion was clearly ecstatic to snatch the pole after a difficult start to qualifying which saw him down on pace.

"It was unbelievable, I'm still full of adrenaline. I love this track, the car was tricky but it came alive and was getting better and better and better as the night progressed, really happy we got it done," said Vettel.

"I think I need to calm down first, for now very happy. The car was amazing, amazing track, if you feel the car is coming alive and you can do what you want to. I knew we had it in us, was a bit of a struggle to get there, now I’m just happy."

Vettel says he's confident the car will be where he needs it on Sunday, but still expects a challenge from those behind him.

"I’m happy that we got the car where it deserved to be and then we can take it from there.

"Tomorrow is a long race, these guys are very quick, we had a difficult night yesterday, better night today. I’m sure the car will be like today tomorrow so it should be better but it will be a very close race."
